Special Event: Talking Circle

March 13, 2015

Native American communities have used traditional talking circles to bring people together to speak and listen to each other without judgment. This type of openness encourages honesty and instills respect for each person’s point of view. Local artist and educator Tina Sparks will lead the talking circle, held in conjunction with the exhibition Sam Durant: Proposal for White and Indian Dead Monument Transpositions, Washington, D.C., which examines the history and memorialization of the unequal and violent relationship between white Americans and Native Americans during the creation of the republic.
