For centuries, Brazilian outback cowboys have communicated with their cattle through Aboio, a form of plaintive, wordless song. This improvised form is also a coded language on the verge of extinction. An award-winning documentary, this film presents a simple yet immersive depiction of the lives of Brazilian cattle drivers through an expressive portrayal of this ancient phenomenon.

This film is presented as part of the Museum's Contemporary Brazilian Film Festival, in conjunction with Rivane Neuenschwander: A Day Like Any Other. This festival explores the relationship between visual art and contemporary Brazilian film. The three experimental films on view bypass the parameters of traditional cinema, portraying a playful and poetic perspective on the world. The festival was organized with assistance from by João Dumans, film researcher. All films are in Portuguese with English subtitles.
