Kemper Contemporary Conversations: Rebecca Wanzo

October 3, 2013
5p
Ebsworth Gallery

The Kemper Contemporary Conversations series engages scholars from various departments across campus and members of the community in discussions about the work of Rashid Johnson and the broader themes addressed in his practice, including race, identity, performance, jazz, and the history of abstraction. Bridging disciplines of art, art history, African and African-American studies, music, and gender studies, each conversation will touch on topics of race and identity in our present context, as well as their impact on creative practices and contemporary theorization.

Each conversation will take place in the exhibition Rashid Johnson: Message to Our Folks.

Rebecca Wanzo, associate professor in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program in Arts & Sciences, will discuss Johnson's work with Meredith Malone, associate curator.
