February 16, 2011
6p Reception, 6:30p Lecture
Steinberg Auditorium

Christophe Cherix will give a talk titled "Print/Out: From the Art & Project Bulletin to SuperFlex." Cherix is the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Chief Curator of Prints and Illustrated Books, at the Museum of Modern Art, where he has served since 2007. Cherix's specialty is modern and contemporary art, with a particular focus on printed art of the 1960s and 1970s. At MoMA, he co-organized (with Kathy Halbreich) Contemporary Art from the Collection, an installation of the permanent collection from the 1960s to the present, on view through May 2011. He also curated four other shows at the Museum: In & Out of Amsterdam: Travels in Conceptual Art, 1960–1976 (2009), Fluxus Preview: Selections from the Gilbert and Lila Fluxus Collection Gift (with Jon Hendricks; 2009), Projects 88: Lucy McKenzie (2008), and Book/Shelf (2008), an exhibition exploring artists' use of the book as an object. He previously worked as the Curator of the Cabinet des estampes in Geneva, and his past projects include surveys of Henri Matisse's prints, Carl Andre's poetry, and Barry LeVa's scrapbooks. In 2003, he was the commissioner of the 25th Biennale of Graphic Arts in Slovenia, where he featured artists' books as well as a range of printed works that expanded traditional definitions of the medium. His publications include the catalogues raisonnés of prints by Henri Michaux (with Rainer Michael Mason) and Robert Morris. He is currently organizing an exhibition on contemporary prints, artist books, and ephemera from the late 1980s to the present, which will open in 2012.

A reception starting at 6 pm in Steinberg Hall will accompany this lecture, which is part of the Sam Fox School Public Lecture Series.
