Karen K. Butler, associate curator, and Angela Miller, professor in the Department of Art History & Archaeology in Arts & Sciences, will discuss the relationship between developing notions of identity and nationalism in nineteenth-century America and depictions of both real and imagined places in the artworks on view in American Places: Painting the Landscape in the Nineteenth Century.
