Inscription Verso, lower center in ink on paper mounted to backing board: This Painting in “Pastel” to be very carefully / handled & great Care taken that nothing / touch its surface. It will be best to leave / the transparent paper over it until the / frame (a simple moulding just strong enough / to hold the glass & either painted white / or gilt in pure pale gold) is quite ready – / Then carefully remove transparent paper & / place at once securely in frame under glass.
