Dutch, Born 1948

Michael Berkhemer studied painting at the Akademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Arnhem from 1965-1970. Since that time, he has exhibited his work regularly across Europe. His work is included in Dutch Embassies throughout the world.

Berkhemer paints thin coats of paint, layered one on top of another, to create fields and forms of great depth and richness. Like his work made at Island Press, his paintings are usually large and include geometric shapes. Berkhemer’s work is included in the collections of Artotheken Amsterdam, Letterkundig Museum Den Haag, and Nationale Nederlanden.
